artfest
During my artist-in-residency with Waste studio, we collaborated with the ArtFest Nottingham 2024 festival, held around The Green Heart with its central information hub located outside Nottingham Central Library. Under our experimental identity, PUBLIC DISPLAY, we introduced an innovative and interactive project that redefined public engagement. This partnership allowed us to create a playful and immersive series of posters designed to communicate more intimately with audiences while exploring broader cultural themes.
Our poster series transcended traditional visual communication by embedding cultural narratives that encouraged active public participation. Instead of remaining passive viewers, the audience became integral participants, engaging with the work in ways that fostered meaningful connections.
We strategically placed four distinct posters at key locations around Nottingham—The Green Heart Park, 1 Carrington St, Middle Pavement, and Garners Hill St—to invite the public into the festival experience. By leveraging Adobe Aero and the cutting-edge Geospatial Creator platform, we embedded QR codes on the posters, enabling audiences to use their phones to enter a digitally enhanced augmented reality (AR) experience. These posters acted as walkable AR galleries, offering unique creative insights into the festival's themes and vision.
This project not only showcased the potential of augmented reality in public art but also enriched the cultural landscape by blending digital innovation with physical spaces, creating a dynamic and accessible artistic experience for all.
